Hole by Hole

The front nine is a slicer’s nightmare, if you are a right-hander, water or OB on the right of every hole. Be accurate, or aim well left.

Hole 1 par 4

A gentle introduction . An excellent starting point for the golf course. From the elevated tee you have a good view of the fairway. Look at the surface of the lake to get a better idea of the wind. Big hitters can drive over the danger leaving a short iron into the green. High handicappers should aim for the bunker on the left of the fairway.

Hole 2.  par 5

Don’t be too aggressive off the tee (unless you are a big hitter and can cut the corner of the lake.). Cut the corner over the lake on your second shot and you will have a good view of the big green.  The green slopes from back to front.

Hole 3 par 4

If you have got this far and not had a ball in the water you are doing very well, keep up the good work on this hole.  Conservative off the tee and   aggressive near the green.

Hole 4

A nice, short, par three to an expansive green. Aim to the left of the green.

Time for a drink

Hole 5

Reach for that driver, get out the ‘Big One ‘ . This is the longest par 5 on the island at 618 yards off the blue tee. In fact it is the longest in Thailand.  Long and straight, but be careful off the tee, there is water on the left at about 220 yards that you can’t see from the tee.

Hole 6

The long and courageous can attempt to go for the green with their tee shot on this dogleg right par 4. Be careful of the wind off the lake. If you made the green in three on the last hole it will mean that the wind will be against you on this hole. High Handicappers should treat this hole as a par 5.

Hole 7 par 4

Very similar to the opening hole, Elevated tee and the lake on the right. But the green is well protected by sand traps

Hole 8

A classic par 3. Long and uphill. Most golfers come up short on this hole so take plenty of club, one or two more. The green is long and uphill.

Hole 9

A slight dogleg right par 4. OB on the right. Long holes, difficult to reach the green in two, so don’t be too greedy.

There is a shuttle bus waiting to drive you up the hill past the clubhouse to the 10th hole.

Time for a drink , to reflect on the front nine and prepare yourself for the back nine.

Back Nine. Now the fun starts. The back nine is almost like a different course. While there was water on six of the first nine holes you should have a “dry “run in.

Hole 10

A truly great golf hole. The nature of the back 9 holes is dictated by the long 10th hole. From the elevated tee you have a dogleg right. Don’t try to cut the corner. Long and straight is the policy here. If you can see your tee shot land you will be well positioned for your approach shot.

Hole 11

A new hole. A tricky par 5. very inviting off the tee but you usually have a bad lie for your second shot

Hole 12.

This hole is just made for the long drivers. The beautiful mountain backdrop means you can follow the flight of the ball all the way. A A big wide fairway. Big hitters can cut the corner- ‘grip it and rip it. ’.

Hole 13 par 4.

This hole used to be an easy par 5 but it is now a difficult par 4.

Time for a drink

Hole 14

This is a new hole. A spectacular par 3 from an elevated tee. A big green to aim at, I wonder why so many miss it?

Hole 15

Another new hole. A short par 4 but there is danger lurking in front of the green

Hole 16.

On the front nine you had the longest par 5 on the island, now you have the longest par 3 at 222 yards off the blue tee and water comes into play. Though it plays slightly down hill, this hole requires a masterful long iron shot to land on the green, don’t be too greedy off the tee, there is plenty of room on the left. The green is very tricky. A bogey is a good score here,

All the hard work is over You now have an easy run in over the two closing holes.

Hole 17.

A straight forward slightly uphill par 4 No trouble, only the trees.

Hole 18.

A classic par 5 to finish your round. The long 18th is the final challenge Be aggressive off the tee, let it rip. Don’t be intimidated on your second shot through a complex of mounds into a tight landing zone. Aim for the left of the green with your approach shot.

Time for a beer.
